THE WAY TO EMMANCIPATION

Tutelated and extutelated youth are people who have lived part of their childhood and/or adolescence in a care center. The reasons behind tutelage and protection by the Generalitat de Catalunya can be diverse: severe poverty, migrations, negligence, situations of abuse, among others.

Turning 18 means leaving this resource of guardianship and start thinking of emancipation, a great challenge for them. Their starting point makes them more vulnerable than the rest of the youth, so for them is more difficult to find an apartment, training, accessing and maintaining a job, processing documentation, learning how to manage one’s own economy, having trusted adults nearby or having a good network of friends.
